As our members in the Northern Hemisphere now enjoy long summer days, we reflect on the 2012 heliski season highlights. Winter played a few games with us last season, with snowfalls erratic across both sides of the Atlantic. However Total Heliski managed to run several Member Tours and many clients embarked on their dream winter holiday all over the Northern Hemisphere, including the mighty Himalayas.

It was a pledge made to honour brave and adventurous men 90 years ago. And now, it’s a pledge fulfilled by a man who embodies all those qualities.

Join Samsung in their quest to complete the 1924 Olympic Games Pledge, which was made 88 years ago by mountaineer Lt Col Strutt. He and his fellow team received 21 gold medals for famously attempting to climb Mount Everest, and he pledged that he would take one of the gold medals back to the summit. This pledge is yet to be fulfilled. With your help, Samsung hopes to not only honour this pledge but also find the missing medals from 1924.

In 1922, an expedition made the first attempt to climb Mt. Everest. The tallest peak in the world however remained unconquered. But the story of the bravery of the men who tried this feat spread across the world and they were lauded as heroes. The ultimate honour for these men came at the 1924 Winter Olympic Games, when they were given the Olympic Gold Medals for Mountaineering.

At Total Heliski, we spend a lot of time reinforcing to our clients and members that heli skiing really is not just for experts. The aspects and terrain that you ski will be similar to what you find off-piste in resorts, only accessed by a helicopter, allowing you to ski seemingly endless fresh tracks guaranteed.

However, it goes without saying that heli skiing is also the ultimate experience for expert skier and snowboarders, and we have several opportunities to offer those who seek the steep and deeps later this season.

The group who worked in all aspects of the industry including mobile operators, technology startups, mobile handset manufacturers, media companies and digital agencies, shared their love of powder skiing in the intimate setting of one of the world’s leading small boutique heliski operations. We spent three days heli skiing a combination of the Monashees’ incredible tree skiing combined with their glacial bowls, when the sun was out and it wasn’t snowing. There’s snow in ‘them there hills’ as they say. The term “Gold Rush” usually evokes visions of western movies, cowboys and people arriving in droves in former times to make their fortunes. However, we’ve discovered a different type of gold rush happening in interior BC Canada, where we’ve spent the last two weeks heli and resort skiing, and meeting locals, tourists, resort property owners, and business owners. It’s an influx reminiscent of gold rushes of yesteryears as all have traveled or settled here for the same reason: to seek and exploit the deep, dry, ‘white gold’, that’s pictured here in this recent photo taken by our Northern BC operator. Proving this year again, Canada is the home of ‘Cold Smoke’, having experienced more La Niña effects this year, thus bringing the white gold to those fortunate enough to be here.

The annual 2011 City Ski Championships take place from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th March in Courmayeur, Valle d’Aosta Italy where the snow has been plentiful this season.

Up to 200 skiers from over 40 City firms will experience a full itinerary of skiing, guiding, coaching, racing, dining on & off the mountain, partying and prize-giving in a programme of friendly competition.

Total Heliski have teamed up with the organizers, Momentum Ski to provide a special complimentary racing/ award dinner package for the first 10 members who get back to us with interest in attending the Ski Champs, valued at £225 per person.

The Challenge?

The Everest Challenge is a unique 3 day charity snow-sports event designed to give participants a skiing and boarding experience they will never forget! It’s being held between the 27-30th January 2011. So, Total Heliski figured we better be there. Hayley Melidonis, as Total Heliski Team Member Numero Uno will be facing the challenge of skiing or snowboarding a total of 150km over 3 days, including a night ski session and a night mountain hike.
